Amsterdam Insight Meditation (in Dutch: Amsterdam Inzichtmeditatie) was founded in 2018. We are a non-sectarian, non-hierarchical sangha in Amsterdam. We welcome beginners as well as advanced students – all those who want to explore the teachings of the Buddha and practice with like-minded meditators.
We offer a regular programme of meditation activities in the evening or afternoon. We also regularly invite guest teachers to host a meditation day, based on a certain theme. At Amsterdam Insight Meditation, you can follow an introductory course to insight meditation (vipassana in the Mahasi Sayadaw tradition) as well as Insight Dialogue. There are also opportunities to study the dhamma together, for example by exploring suttas.
Our programmes and meditation days are held in Dutch unless otherwise specified. If you have a working knowledge of Dutch you are very welcome to join us. Please see our agenda for upcoming activities. Activities are held in different locations in Amsterdam.
All activities are held on a dana base: this means that you pay a small amount towards the rent of the venue and any expenses guest teachers may incur. You are invited to practice dana (generosity) towards the teacher for the teachings themselves.

Since its foundation, Amsterdam Insight Meditation has been steadily growing as a sangha. We welcome any ideas and help from our members. Riët Aarsse is the initiator of Amsterdam Insight Meditation. All meditation and study activities are offered and supported by a team of teachers, trainees, facilitators and volunteers from within the sangha.
If you have any questions or want to participate or collaborate in any way, please feel free to contact us. Or come and meet us by dropping in at a meditation activity.
